Zhengzhou University of Light Industry

Zhengzhou University of Light Industry (ZZULI) locates in the city of Zhengzhou, the capital of Henan Province. Since its establishment, ZZULI has been acting on the university motto of “nothing is too difficult for the willing mind” and constantly innovating and forging ahead by seizing the historical opportunity of promoting the development of higher education by the state. ZZULI was founded in 1977. In 2020, ZZULI was approved as a featured key university in Henan Province; in 2021, ZZULI was approved as a doctorate degree authorized organization. At present, ZZULI has 18 affiliated colleges, more than 27,000 students, and more than 2,200 faculty members, among whom nearly 800 teachers have sub-senior titles  or above and more than 800 teachers have doctorates.

School Running  

At present, ZZULI has Kexue Campus, Dongfeng Campus and Yuzhou Practice and Training Base, covering an area of more than 2,200 mu. It owns complete facilities, beautiful environment, advanced teaching and scientific research instruments, more than 2.38 million Chinese and foreign paper books and more than 8.6 million e-books. ZZULI has been equipped with the e-book system and computer network service system, and has been connected to more than 170 databases such as Nature, Elsevier, Wiley, IEEE, SCI, CNKI, Wanfang, etc. Now, it has the first national model digital archive room among colleges and universities in China. In addition, it is a model university of smart campus in Henan Province, possessing the 10-gigabit campus network with complete functions and rich applications, which covers the whole school with wired and wireless networks.

Disciplines and Specialties  

ZZULI possesses distinctive school-running characteristics and prominent discipline advantages. Up to now, ZZULI owns two first-level disciplines authorized to offer doctorate degree, 15 first-level disciplines authorized to offer master degree and 15 specialties authorized to offer master degree. Three disciplines of ZZULI, including Engineering, Chemistry and Materials Science, are now among the top 1% of ESI global ranking. In addition, ZZULI has two featured key discipline groups of Henan Province, which are “Food Science and Engineering” and “Intelligent Manufacturing of Electrical Equipment”, and 18 provincial key disciplines, with traditional predominant disciplines such as Food Science and Engineering, Chemical Engineering and Technology, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering and Design Science. Currently, ZZULI offers 71 undergraduate specialties, among which there are 19 national first-class undergraduate specialties, 12 provincial first-class undergraduate specialties, five national featured specialties and comprehensive reform pilot specialties, six pilot specialties of “Plan for Educating and Training Outstanding Engineers” issued by the Ministry of Education, and nine specialties that have passed the professional certification in engineering education. Furthermore, ZZULI has eight provincial teaching teams as well as 11 provincial experimental teaching demonstration centers and virtual simulation experimental teaching centers.

Scientific Research   

ZZULI has set up two collaborative innovation centers in Henan Province, which are Henan Collaborative Innovation Center of Environment Pollution Control and Ecological Restoration and Henan Collaborative Innovation Center of Food Production and Safety, 51 ministerial and provincial discipline platforms, including Henan Key Lab of Information based Electrical Appliances, Henan Key Lab of Surface & Interface Science and Technology, Henan Key Laboratory of Intelligent Manufacturing of Mechanical Equipment, Key Laboratory of Biotechnology in Tobacco Industry of State Tobacco Monopoly Bureau, and Henan Province Engineering Laboratory for Information Tchenology of Emergency Platform, and 16 ministerial and provincial scientific and technological innovation teams, providing significant support for high-level scientific research and talent cultivation. In the past five years, ZZULI has undertaken more than 3,500 scientific research projects including those of the National Science & Technology Pillar Program, National Natural Science Foundation and National Social Science Foundation; four national science and technology prizes and more than 130 ministerial and provincial prizes have been awarded; more than 2,000 natural science research papers have been collected by SCI, EI, ISTP; more than 600 monographs and textbooks have been published; more than 900 patents have been authorized. Journal of Light Industry, published by ZZULI, has been listed in Chinese Core Journal Criterion of PKU, and listed as first-level journal in Henan Province, outstanding sci-tech journal of Chinese universities and SCD source journal; Journal of Zhengzhou University of Light Industry (Social Science Edition) is a national outstanding social science journal, a first-level journal in Henan Province, and one of the top 20 journals in Henan Province.

Social Services 

By giving full play to its research advantages in fields of agricultural product processing, food safety, intelligent manufacturing of electrical equipment, fine chemical industry, new energy, light industrial machinery and industrial arts, ZZULI serves the high-quality development of local economy. It has signed strategic cooperation agreements on collaborative innovation with Zhengzhou City, Xuchang City and Jiyuan City successively, and established strategic alliances with a number of domestic tobacco enterprises. Moreover, it keeps long-term industry-university-research cooperation relationships with large enterprises in pillar industries, industrial clusters and light industry in Henan Province, providing significant technical support and talent support. These enterprises include famous food enterprises such as DOYOO, Sanquan, Shuanghui and Haoxiangni; famous electrical enterprises such as XJ, Senyuan and Pinggao; famous household appliances such as Midea and Haier; famous chemical enterprises such as Pingmei Shenma, Puyang Huicheng and Do-Fluoride (DFD); famous machinery enterprises such as Yutong Bus and CITIC Heavy Industries.

International Exchange  

ZZULI attaches great importance to international cooperation and exchange, taking the lead in introducing and utilizing international educational resources to carry out international cooperation and exchange among colleges and universities in Henan Province. ZZULI has developed extensive cooperation with nearly 80 colleges and universities from the United States, Great Britain, Australia, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Ireland, Malaysia, Korea and Japan. Experts and scholars have been frequently assigned overseas for lecturing, further study and visits, foreign experts have been employed for teaching and academic exchange, scientific research cooperation has been carried out, joint laboratories have been built, and extensive cooperation in exchange and joint cultivation of students have been carried out. ZZULI has conducted joint cultivation of doctoral candidates with colleges and universities at home and abroad, such as Oakland University in the United States and University of Camerino in Italy. With the earliest IELTS examination center in Henan Province, ZZULI has been praised as “one of the best examination centers in China” by The British Embassy in China.
